Nelson’s Jewelry in the Crystal Lake Plaza

We are excited to begin our 52nd year in business! Watch for special events throughout the year as we celebrate 52 years helping the Crystal Lake community and McHenry County make lasting jewelry memories.

Art and Alice Nelson opened Nelson’s Jewelry October 15th, 1962.  The original store was the 240 square foot front office of what was the plaza’s medical professional complex.  Over the years the Nelson family took every opportunity to increase their business as the Doctors in the building moved.

Art and Alice encouraged their two sons, Bob and Rich to come work for them.  The Nelsons taught their sons to run the business by selling high quality merchandise at the lowest possible pricing. “Never forget the success of this business came from honesty and fairness,” said Art before retiring in 1989.

Today Bob and Rich Nelson operate Nelson’s Jewelry together.  Bob handles the sales floor, and Rich is the primary goldsmith and manages the service department.  Bob’s wife, Sue Nelson is also very active on the sales floor, specifically visiting South Africa to purchase the Nelson’s Jewelry Private Collection of South African Diamonds. Four additional employees, including a full-time Store Manager, Justin Banaszynski, work on the Nelson’s staff. The Nelson’s completed a store expansion in 2008 and offer jewelry repair using laser technology.
